Best-Selling Author and Client, Debra Berndt Shares Her Success Story!

It all began at Starbucks when I met Robin. I told her that I wanted to write a book. I told her all the reasons why I couldn’t write the book, I wasn’t qualified, I don’t know if I am a good writer, I am afraid to show my work. Robin told me that there is a chasm between where we are and where we want to be. As my coach, she would take me across that chasm, and she did.

Just months out of the corporate world and into my new world of being an entrepreneur as a hypnotherapist, Robin started with a strong foundation in coaching me to expand my current business so that it can support me. Within two months, my business increased to a point where clients and referrals flowed to me effortlessly.

Now that the groundwork was set, I could focus on bigger dreams. I went back to the book. I want to be on Oprah and write a book about relationships and the subconscious mind. Instead of having me focus on writing the book, she had me get started on my book proposal. This was a critical step and avoided lots of wasted time writing a book that no one wanted to publish.

She also told me to build my platform by getting exposure in the media. Over the next few months, I was interviewed on Denver’s top morning show as well as radio stations across the US including Playboy Satellite Radio. Then, out of nowhere, I landed a regular column in a local Denver magazine.

It seemed that when I worked with Robin, set an intention, things would just start to flow in the direction I put my mind. Armed with my first proposal, I attended the San Diego Writers’ Conference. I met with agents and editors and got feedback on my book idea. Even though I didn’t come home with a deal, I learned a lot and was ready to keep going.

Over the next year, I met my life partner. It was a scary and exciting time and Robin helped me with all the emotions that I was feeling. She helped me on both a business and personal level throughout my work with her.

Thanks to Robin’s nudging, I sent a press release out and got my big break on Valentine’s Day and was interviewed on two television stations in Denver about hypnosis and love. By the following year, after a few more appearances, I landed a regular guest spot on Denver’s 7 News Saturday morning program, which boosted my business, online sales and my platform. Robin was instrumental in preparing me for my interviews as well as keeping me pumped up about my book idea. I was ready to go back to the writer’s conference and submit a new proposal.

In January, 2006, I went to the San Diego Writers’ Conference and met both of my agents. They really liked my idea and told me they wanted to work together a week after the conference. They had some feedback on my proposal and had me do some rewrites and resubmit. After months of edits and then resubmitting to Full Circle Literary, they signed me on as a client. It took about six months but I received four simultaneous offers and accepted the offer with J. Wiley & Sons, the nation’s largest non-fiction publisher. My book is now hitting the stores on March 1, 2010. It is called, Let Love In, Open Your Heart and Mind to Attract Your Ideal Partner. ”

What I learned from this experience is to take my time. Build a strong foundation and don’t let your ego get in the way of forcing it to happen or settle for a smaller deal. If I didn’t have Robin to help me along the way, I would have given up long before I wrote my first proposal.
